Common business-day counts:

How to use

The business days calculator works with weekdays only — Saturdays and Sundays are always skipped, and you can additionally exclude US federal holidays and any custom dates (company shutdowns, school breaks, personal days off).

Add business days

  1. Select Add business days mode
  2. Choose your starting date
  3. Enter the number of business days to add
  4. Optionally exclude US federal holidays and add custom exclusion dates
  5. Press Calculate to see the target date

Count business days between dates

  1. Select Count between dates mode
  2. Choose your start and end dates
  3. The result shows the business days between them, plus calendar days, weekdays, and weekend days

See exactly which days were skipped

Every result includes a skipped-days breakdown that names each excluded day — for example "Thursday, November 27, 2025 — Thanksgiving Day" or "custom exclusion" — so you can audit the count instead of trusting a bare number.

Common uses

  • Calculate shipping delivery dates (e.g., "5-7 business days")
  • Determine legal deadlines that specify business days
  • Plan project timelines excluding weekends
  • Calculate payment due dates

Note on holidays

"Exclude public holidays" uses the holiday calendar you pick. The United States set is all 11 federal holidays — New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day — each on its officially observed date. The United Kingdom set covers England and Wales bank holidays, Canada the nationwide statutory holidays, and Australia the national holidays. Holiday data last updated 2026-07. Regional, state and company holidays vary everywhere: add those as custom exclusion dates.

A worked example

Take a "within 10 business days" commitment made on Saturday, August 1, 2026. Counting forward and skipping 3 weekend days and 0 US federal holidays, the deadline falls on Friday, August 14, 2026 — 13 calendar days later, not 10. That gap is the whole reason business days and calendar days need separate counters.

Business days FAQ

What counts as a business day?

Any Monday to Friday that is not a public holiday. Saturdays and Sundays are always excluded; whether a public holiday is excluded depends on the holiday calendar you choose, and you can add your own shutdown days on top.

How many business days are there in 2026?

250. 2026 has 365 calendar days; removing 104 weekend days leaves 261 weekdays, and removing the 11 US federal holidays observed on a weekday leaves 250. 2027 has 249.

Does the count include the start date?

In "Add business days" mode, no — day one is the next working day, which is the convention "within N business days" uses. In "Count between dates" mode you control both endpoints with the inclusivity toggles.

How do I calculate working days between two dates?

Switch to "Count between dates", pick both dates, and tick "Exclude public holidays" if your deadline ignores them. For example, August 1, 2026 plus 10 business days is Friday, August 14, 2026 — 13 calendar days, because 3 weekend days and 0 holidays sit in the way.

Can I use a non-US holiday calendar?

Yes. The holiday calendar selector covers the United States (federal holidays with observed-date shifting), the United Kingdom (England and Wales bank holidays), Canada (nationwide statutory holidays) and Australia (national holidays). Regional and state holidays vary — add those as custom exclusion dates.

What happens when a holiday falls on a weekend?

It is not deducted twice. A holiday landing on a Saturday or Sunday was already outside the working week, so the count only removes holidays observed on a weekday. Fixed-date US holidays shift to the adjacent Friday or Monday and the result labels them "(observed)".

How many working hours is that?

Multiply the business days by your working day. 2026's 250 business days are 2,000 hours at eight hours a day, or 1,875 at seven and a half. Paid leave is not deducted — add it as custom exclusions.

Can I share a business-day calculation?

Yes. Every calculation updates the page URL with your dates, the day count, the holiday calendar and any custom exclusions, so the link reopens the exact same result.
