Elapsed vs inclusive
Elapsed days count the gap between two dates; inclusive days count both endpoints. The "Include start date" and "Include end date" toggles widen the counted range when your deadline or booking works that way.
Calendar or business days
One toggle switches the answer between calendar days and business days. Business mode skips Saturdays and Sundays, can exclude US federal holidays, and accepts your own custom exclusion dates.

How to count days between dates
- Enter the start date. Type or pick the first date. The Today button fills in today’s date.
- Enter the end date. Type or pick the second date. The order does not matter — an earlier end date still returns the absolute count.
- Choose calendar or business days. Use the mode toggle. Business days skip Saturdays and Sundays and can also exclude US federal holidays and custom dates.
- Set the inclusivity toggles. Include the start date, the end date, or neither, depending on whether your deadline counts its endpoints.

How do you calculate the number of days between two dates?
Enter a start date and an end date, keep the mode on Calendar days, and press Calculate. The big answer is the elapsed days — January 1 to January 2 is 1 elapsed day — and the breakdown below it shows inclusive days, weekdays, weekend days, business days, and the same span as weeks and days.
What is the difference between elapsed days and inclusive days?
Elapsed days measure the gap between the two dates, so the start date itself is not counted. Inclusive days count both the start date and the end date, so the inclusive total is always one more than the elapsed total. If you need the counted range itself to contain the first or last day, use the "Include start date" and "Include end date" toggles.
Does the day counter include both the start and the end date?
By default no: the count is exclusive of the start date and inclusive of the end date, which is the convention deadlines and notice periods use. Turn on "Include start date" to count both endpoints — the answer goes up by exactly one day.
How many days are in a year?
A common year has 365 days and a leap year has 366. 2026 is a common year, so it has 365 days. As of August 18, 2026, 229 days of 2026 have elapsed and 135 remain.
Which years are leap years, and why does it matter?
A year is a leap year when it is divisible by 4, except century years, which must also be divisible by 400 — so 2000 was a leap year and 1900 was not. The next leap years are 2028, 2032, 2036. It matters because any range that crosses February 29 is one day longer than a 365-day-year estimate suggests, which is why this counter walks the actual calendar instead of dividing.
How many days are between two months?
It depends on the months, because month lengths vary from 28 to 31 days. January 1 to February 1 is 31 days, February 1 to March 1 is 28 days (29 in a leap year), and April 1 to May 1 is 30. That is why an "about 30 days a month" estimate drifts by up to three days per month — enter the real dates instead.
How many business days are there between two dates?
Switch the mode toggle to Business days. The count then includes weekdays only, skipping Saturdays and Sundays, and can also exclude the 11 US federal holidays and any custom dates you add. For example, August 18, 2026 to December 31, 2026 is 135 calendar days but only 93 business days.
How do I count days between dates without counting weekends?
Business days mode does exactly that: it drops every Saturday and Sunday from the range. The result also reports the weekday and weekend totals separately, so you can see how many of each the range contained rather than trusting a single number.
Does the order of the dates matter?
No. If the end date is earlier than the start date, the calculator returns the absolute difference rather than a negative number, so you can enter the two dates in either order and get the same count.
How many weeks is a given number of days?
Divide by seven and keep the remainder: 100 days is 14 weeks and 2 days, 365 days is 52 weeks and 1 day, and 1,000 days is 142 weeks and 6 days. Every result on this page reports the span both ways so you never have to do that division yourself.
Which US federal holidays does the counter exclude?
All 11: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day — each on its officially observed date, with the statutory Saturday-to-Friday and Sunday-to-Monday shift applied. The result names every holiday it removed so you can audit the count.
